My name is Ryan Ceccarelli and I'm from NJ, USA. Growing up I knew my chest was different, but it wasnt until i was 20 years old that a doctor officially told me I had Polands Syndrome. Until that point I had no idea what PS was, all i knew was I was missing a pec muscle(left side). Well it turned out I was also missing part of my left Latissimus Dorsi muscle too. I played Varsity & travel ice hockey growing up and my missing pec and lat never seemed to hold me back. It wasnt until I was 22 and started lifting weights that i realized how weak my left side really was. I was very discouraged at first and wanted to quit, but my older (much wiser) brother kept pushing me to stick with it and continue lifting. 3 months later i saw what lifting was doing to my body and i fell in love with it. About a year and a half later I entered my first deadlift competition and won 1st place with a 425lbs deadlift at 155lbs bodyweight, From that point on I focused only on powerlifting and competing..... And today I currently hold the WNPF NJ state squat record. Does Polands Syndrome complicate lifting? Of course, but its manageable. Dont be discouraged. You're stronger than you think. Any obstacles that polands syndrome causes..you can work through just like any obstacles you have in life. Dont ever compare your body to someone elses, focus on becoming the best version of yourself.
